What is it
Environmental management system standard. It shows that the company controls its environmental impact — waste, emissions, resource consumption. Often required when working with foreign customers and international companies.

ISO 14001 in Uzbekistan: a closer look at environmental management certification
ISO 14001 in Uzbekistan is no longer just a "badge for exporters" — environmental management certification is increasingly becoming a condition for tender participation, a requirement of international buyers and part of the ESG reporting of large companies. State environmental requirements in the country are tightening, and a system built on ISO 14001:2015 lets you manage environmental aspects in a planned way rather than merely react to inspections — and demonstrate this to customers, banks and investors.
What an environmental management system consists of
ISO 14001:2015 is built on the PDCA cycle (plan — do — check — act) and the Annex SL structure shared with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001. The core of the system is the identification of environmental aspects: air emissions, discharges to water bodies, waste generation and handling, consumption of energy, water and raw materials, noise, and impact on soil. For each significant aspect the company sets objectives, management programmes, operational control criteria and emergency response procedures. The system necessarily includes a register of legal requirements — in Uzbekistan this means environmental legislation, emission and discharge standards, waste management rules — and regular evaluation of compliance with those requirements.
Stages of ISO 14001 certification
Stage 1. Gap analysis. We carry out an environmental review of the enterprise: identify aspects, assess their significance, check permit documentation and compliance with current requirements. The result is a nonconformity map and a project plan with timeline and cost.
Stage 2. Documentation. Environmental policy, registers of aspects and legal requirements, objectives and programmes, operational control procedures, waste management, emergency preparedness, monitoring and measurement. Everything is built around your real processes — no template filler.
Stage 3. Implementation. We train personnel (general environmental awareness plus workplace training for significant aspects), launch the procedures, and conduct an internal audit and management review.
Stage 4. Certification audit. We support the audit by an accredited body: help present evidence and close findings. The result is an ISO 14001 certificate.
ISO 14001 and Uzbekistan's legislation: how they connect
A frequent question: "we already have environmental permits — why do we need ISO 14001?". Permits are the mandatory minimum controlled by the state. ISO 14001 is a management system that makes meeting those requirements manageable: aspects are identified, responsibilities assigned, monitoring runs on schedule, and nonconformities are eliminated systematically rather than after a fine. That is exactly why foreign buyers and banks look at the certificate: it shows that a supplier's environmental risks are under control not in words, but within a recognised international model.
Cost and timeline of ISO 14001 certification in Uzbekistan
The timeline is from 25 days to 3 months: companies with a working ISO 9001 system move faster because the process framework already exists. The cost depends on headcount, number of sites, the risk level of production and the presence of related systems. An exact estimate comes after the gap analysis — free of charge. Importantly, when integrated with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 into a single management system (IMS), the project budget is significantly lower than the sum of three separate implementations: shared procedures, one internal audit, one training programme.
Why it is safer with us
We have been implementing management systems for over 15 years; our projects include mining, processing and food industry enterprises. We prepare the system for real audits, not for a "paper" certificate: documents describe your practice, staff understand their roles, and records are kept from the first month. After certification we support surveillance audits and help develop the system further — for example, adding ISO 50001 for energy efficiency.
What it costs
The cost depends on your company's scale — number of employees, sites and processes. Leave a request and within a day we will calculate the exact cost and timeline for your case. The estimate is free and non-binding.
