What is it
FSSC 22000 is an international certification scheme for food safety management systems. It is built on ISO 22000, supplemented by the technical requirements of ISO/TS 22002 (prerequisite programs) and the scheme's own requirements. Its key distinction is recognition by the global GFSI initiative: the FSSC 22000 certificate is accepted by the world's largest retailers and manufacturers.
Who needs FSSC 22000
- Food and beverage producers supplying major retail chains
- Exporters of food products to the EU, Middle East and other markets
- Manufacturers of food-contact packaging
- Enterprises whose customers refer to GFSI recognition
What your company gets
- A certificate recognised by the global GFSI initiative
- Access to supplier lists of the largest international chains and brands
- A food safety system at the level of global requirements
- Trust of foreign customers without additional audits
How implementation works
Timeline — from 2 to 4 months, depending on the current maturity of your food safety system. We set the exact timeline after the Gap analysis.
Gap analysis
We assess the system against FSSC 22000 requirements and deliver a nonconformity map and plan
Documentation
We upgrade PRPs to ISO/TS 22002 and align the HACCP plan and procedures with scheme requirements
Implementation
We train staff, launch monitoring and records, and conduct an internal audit
Audit
We support the certification audit until the FSSC 22000 certificate is issued
FSSC 22000 in Uzbekistan: a closer look at GFSI-recognised certification
FSSC 22000 in Uzbekistan is implemented by enterprises focused on export and supplies to international chains: this scheme is on the GFSI-recognised list alongside BRCGS and IFS. For Uzbek producers of dried fruits, canned goods, dairy products and beverages, the FSSC 22000 certificate is often a mandatory condition of contracts with European and Middle Eastern customers.
How FSSC 22000 differs from ISO 22000
ISO 22000 is a food safety management system standard. FSSC 22000 is a certification scheme that includes the whole of ISO 22000 plus technical requirements for prerequisite programs (ISO/TS 22002-1 for food manufacturing, ISO/TS 22002-4 for packaging) and additional scheme requirements: allergen management, prevention of product tampering and fraud (food defense and food fraud), label control. It is this combination that GFSI recognises. If you already run ISO 22000, the upgrade to FSSC 22000 takes significantly less time.
What GFSI recognition means
GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) is a global initiative of the largest retailers and manufacturers that benchmarks food safety certification schemes. Customers referring to GFSI accept any recognised scheme — but in Uzbekistan it is most often FSSC 22000: it logically extends ISO 22000 and does not require rebuilding the system around a different model.
Stages of FSSC 22000 certification
Stage 1. Gap analysis. We check the existing system: PRPs, HACCP, traceability, records. The result is a nonconformity map against FSSC 22000 requirements and a project plan. Stage 2. Documentation. We upgrade prerequisite programs to ISO/TS 22002 and add procedures for food defense, food fraud and allergen management. Stage 3. Implementation. We train personnel and the HACCP team, launch the procedures, and conduct the internal audit and management review. Stage 4. Certification audit. We support the accredited body's audit until the FSSC 22000 certificate is issued.
Where FSSC 22000 is required
The certificate is requested by international retailers, global brand manufacturers and distributors for the EU and Gulf markets. Within Uzbekistan the scheme is most often implemented by exporters and enterprises doing contract manufacturing for foreign brands.
Timeline and cost of FSSC 22000 certification in Uzbekistan
The timeline is from 2 to 4 months depending on the current maturity of the system: with a working ISO 22000 the project moves faster. The cost depends on the scale of production, number of sites and product category. An exact estimate follows the gap analysis — free of charge.
Why it is safer with us
We have been implementing food safety systems for over 15 years and have passed audits under GFSI schemes at enterprises of different scales. We know the typical nonconformities auditors find at Uzbek production sites and eliminate them before the certification audit. After certification we support the annual surveillance audits.
What it costs
The cost depends on the scale of your production — number of employees, sites and product category. Leave a request and within a day we will calculate the exact cost and timeline for your case. The estimate is free and non-binding.
